Currin is an award-winning playwright currently residing in Washington, DC. She is the author of nearly a dozen plays, several of which have been honored by the Helen Hayes Awards* and the Mary Goldwater Award from Theatre Lobby of Washington, DC. She has also been singled out for numerous honors from the Washington Theatre Festival of New Plays.
Currin has written commissioned work, such as a new adaptation of Mozart’s The Magic Flute and a new musical The Vagabond Princesses for the In Series, an original musical Vaudeville for the Washington Jewish Theatre, and a new commissioned work for the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts.
She received her M.F.A. in directing from The University of Virginia, and her B.A., cum laude, in Theatre and English from Wake Forest University and is a member of The Dramatists Guild, Actors Equity Association, the Screen Actors Guild, A.F.T.R.A. and The Playwrights Forum of Washington, DC.
Currin is also an actress, and has performed on many stages in the Washington/Baltimore area, including Arena Stage, Olney Theatre Center, Signature Theatre, Washington Stage Guild, Theatre J, Everyman Theatre, Rep Stage, American Century Theatre, Washington Shakespeare Company, Source Theatre Company, Catalyst Theatre, Church Street Theatre, Studio Theatre, Round House Theatre and Charter Theatre.
She has had a varied and diverse teaching career as well and has taught acting and playwriting at The George Washington University since 1998. Currin has also taught at St. Mary’s College (Visiting Professor, Playwriting), Goucher College (Playwriting), Prince George’s Community College (English Composition and Literature), The American School in Switzerland (Drama), The Bethesda Academy of Performing Arts (Shakespeare) and The University of Virginia (Acting).
The First Draft Reading Series combines the reading of a play-in-progress with a guided post show interactive audience discussion.
